Birmingham Museums is for everyone and it's also a fantastic place to work.

People are at the heart of what we do. From curators, technicians to catering and visitor experience assistants we've full-time, part-time and casual posts across all our sites and teams.

Under the new leadership of our Co-CEO's Sara Wajid and Zak Mensah there has never been a more exciting time to join Birmingham Museums. We can only excel however with the right people. We aim to be genuinely welcoming to all people from every background and to be representative of the many communities we serve. Do you have what it takes to join the team?

Visitors at the Birmingham Museum enjoying the facilities

We offer a generous annual leave package, pension scheme, voluntary Employee Benefits scheme, free entry to all our sites, 50% discount at our cafés as well as discounts at other local and national museums.

Our volunteering opportunities are open to anyone aged 16 or over. If you are under 18 we will ask for a parent or guardian to give permission for you to volunteer with us. Our volunteers get involved with a whole range of projects and activities and we couldn't do what we do without them.

We are not currently offering opportunities for work experience (for those age 15 plus). Please do check back in the next academic year for updates.

Birmingham Museums Trust is committed to the highest standards in protecting and safeguarding the welfare of the children, young people and vulnerable adults entrusted to its care at all times. We also want to protect and support our staff who work or come into contact with these groups. Please refer to our safeguarding policy for further information.

Our Values

We are more than just a public space; we are a home for the diverse stories and identities of Birmingham. We don’t just wait for people to arrive - we proactively work to break down barriers, celebrate diversity, and strive to ensure our staff, volunteers, and visitors see themselves reflected in everything we do.
We are at our best when we work as one team without ego. From ‘mucking in’ to supporting each other in a moment of need, we value the power of shared effort. We believe that no task is beneath us and no challenge is too great when we face it together.
We are the city’s storytellers, and we aren't afraid to tell the difficult ones. We remain experimental and brave, constantly asking "what if?" to find new ways to inspire joy. We use our world-class collections and sites to spark imagination and to connect to the lives of the communities we serve.
We are trusted custodians of Birmingham’s heritage and stories. We act democratically, transparently, and with heart, making sustainable choices that honour our environment and our resources. We hold ourselves accountable, ensuring that BMT remains a resilient and transparent force for good for generations to come.
